  hidden gem of sj for me, been coming here since i was little and i still love it to this day. usually i would get their broken rice but lately i can't forget their steamed rice rolls

  Hell to tha NO!!!
  
  A car full of indecisive females is the reason as to why we made the poor decision of heading here for lunch.
  
  The parking lot is fairly small and although a good amount of the parking spot is labeled at 30 minutes only, no one really follows that rule.
  
  We walked into the fairly full restaurant and are quickly ushered to a table. Menus were given and the guy stands there ready to take our order. I couldn't help but think, "can I have a minute... or two??"
  
  Our party ordered:
  [#27] Com Tam Bi Cha Suon Nuong Tau Hu Ky- steamed broken rice with shredded pork, egg cake, BBQ pork chop, & bean curd skin wrapped shrimp cake x2
  [#40] Com Tam Suon Nuong- steamed broken rice with BBQ pork chop.
  [#48] Com Tam Bi Suon Bo Dai Han- steamed broken rice with shredded pork & BBQ Korean short  ribs.
  
  The rice plates came out quick. We waiting patiently for our soup bowls to come out and they never did. My sister eventually flagged an employee and requested for some.
  
  Broth was probably the best thing that was served. BBQ'd meats looked good but were flavorless and unappetizing, egg cakes were bland, and the shrimp cakes were doable but very dense. We requested for some pickled leeks [which is a normal staple for these dishes] and the worker said they didn't have any. Wtf??!
  
  1 star. Avoid this place at all costs. I can guarantee I won't ever make a trip back to Com Tam
  Thanh. Prices are cheaper than Com Tam Thien Huong but I'd pay extra for tasty edible food any day!!!

  This place went south over the years.  I used to recommend this restaurant to anyone who asked me where a good Com Tam was in San Jose.
  
  I know Com Tam is a comfort meal for the larger Vietnamese community which is why Com Tam Thanh needs to step up their game if they want to remain a competitor.
  
  At our most recent visit, the overall experience really set the tone for me exiting them off of my recommendation list.  In all honesty, the flavors and overall freshness just wasn't there anymore.  The small bowl of soup that accompanied the rice dishes literally tasted like hot water with cilantro and black pepper thrown into it.  The lettuce and tomato slices were soggy and discolored.  Additionally, they no longer carry pickled garlic which I feel is a necessity to the concoction of Com Tam.
  
  The prices have gone up a bit also and cash is still the only form of accepted payment.  You're probably better off exploring another restaurant for your fix.
  
  P.S.  service leans more toward the disingenuous side if you can't order in Vietnamese.

  Com tam is my all time favorite comfort food. I've had lots these broken rice plates around the area and this place did not deliver for me. I got #25 the broken rice with grilled shrimp and shrimp cake. If you look at my picture they only gave me 3 pieces of shrimp and to me was a small shrimp cake. Looking at the plate you feel like you got jipped. Never have I seen so much plate before actually eating my food. Well unless you go to those fancy ass Michelin restaurants, but this is not one of those places. The grilled shrimp was cooked well and the shrimp cake was okay but there was just too much rice.
  
  Sorry but I will not be coming back here as there's plenty of other better com tam places in the area. I'd recommend driving down the street to Com Tam Dat Thanh, where their portions are bigger and even their shrimp cakes are sliced for you so you don't have to struggle or waste your time with a knife.
  
  Service: Decent service, not much to complain about. They brought out our fish sauce and soup without asking as it comes with our meal.
  
  Parking: Small lot but parking shouldn't be a problem as I don't see this plaza being that busy often.

  (CASH ONLY) First time coming to this place yesterday with my family. Like mentioned in other posts that parking here can be hard to find since it is a small parking structure. The restaurant is humid once you walk in through the doors. We were seated fairly quickly since there was not a lot of people there last night on a Saturday.
  
  Once seated you'll be given your menus. 1 minute after the waitress will give you your cup of water. After placing the waters down she then asked what we wanted to order. Took our ours and our food cane out fairly quickly as well. Give or take we had only waited for 5-7 minutes for our food to be out.
  
  The food itself were delicious. Good amount of meat on the plate as well with the rice in the middle. You'll be given soup as well and the soup was delicious! My precious little one finished the whole entire soup.
  
  Would definitely be returning back.
